THE DICKINSON REGIONAL AIRPORT IS AWARDED

“2011 COMMERCIAL AIRPORT OF THE YEAR”

The Dickinson Regional Airport has received the “2011 Commercial Airport of the Year” award. The award was presented March 6, 2012 at the Upper Midwest Aviation Symposium held in Bismarck. The award is sponsored by the North Dakota Aeronautics Commission in conjunction with the Airport Association of ND. This award is for excellence in maintaining safety, project management, and community awareness.

Presenting the award was Tim Thorsen, President of the Airport Association of ND and Larry Taborsky, Executive Director of North Dakota Aeronautics Commission. Accepting the award was Airport Authority Chairman Jon Frantsvog, Secretary/Treasurer Craig Steve, and Airport Manager Matthew Remynse.

Accomplishments for 2011 were:

In 2011, the airport completed the expansion and remodel of the passenger terminal which was greatly needed since they saw an explosive 83.1% annual increase in passenger numbers. By working with the airline, the airport was also able to increase the amount of commercial service between Dickinson and Denver International Airport by securing more seats and adding a fourth roundtrip flight.

Other airport projects include the purchasing of a new Oshkosh Snow blower, performing a parking lot expansion, and the development of a new community hangar. The airport is also currently working on a master plan which will lay out what needs to be accomplished in order to meet the future demands that the airport will no doubt see in the next couple of years due to the oil boom.

This past year the Dickinson Airport held two different open houses where members of the community could come out to the airport to learn about general aviation and see how it has grown. The airport also held its first annual Youth Aviation Adventure Day where kids ages 6-18 could rotate through different stations that had a different focus about aviation such as a preflight inspection, aerodynamics, aviation careers, airport operations, and review of instrument panels.
